Company: This long-established, family-owned flavours and fragrances business has operated for more than six decades and is one of the leading companies

within its domestic market. The organisation combines extensive flavour manufacturing capabilities with a substantial internal technical and analytical

infrastructure. Its facilities include multiple GC-MS systems, a large team of scientists and an established flavour and fragrance creation function. Having

historically focused primarily on its domestic market, the company is now entering an important period of international expansion. It is receiving increasing

interest from customers outside its home market and is planning further development across Europe, ME and other international markets. To support this

growth, increase creative capacity and strengthen its ability to respond quickly to customer briefs, the business is looking to appoint an experienced Senior

Flavourist Consultant.

Role: The Senior Flavourist Consultant will provide hands-on flavour creation support to the company’s existing technical and creative teams. This is a

flexible consultancy opportunity rather than a traditional full-time, location-dependent position. The successful individual can be based internationally and

may work remotely from their own laboratory or provide formulations and technical direction for the company’s internal team to compound and evaluate.

The business is open to different engagement structures, including a regular number of days per week or month, a monthly retainer, project-based

consultancy or another commercially practical arrangement. The successful consultant will ideally have gained significant experience within a recognised

multinational or international flavour house before moving into independent consultancy, freelance work or another flexible professional model. The

business values experience, quality and technical credibility, but speed and reliability will be equally important. The consultant must be able to progress

briefs efficiently, manage an agreed volume of projects and provide commercially realistic turnaround times.

Main Responsibilities

• Develop original flavours in response to customer briefs, internal development projects and wider innovation requirements.

• Provide specialist flavour creation expertise within beverages, confectionery, alcoholic drinks or other agreed application areas.

• Interpret customer briefs and translate them into technically appropriate, commercially viable flavour solutions.

• Create, modify and optimise flavour formulations based on evaluation feedback from the company’s internal technical and commercial teams.

• Work remotely with the company’s flavourists, scientists, laboratory personnel and senior management to progress projects effectively.

• Provide complete and accurate formulations for compounding within the company’s internal laboratory where required.

• Where the consultant has access to an independent laboratory, create and evaluate samples before submitting them to the company for further

testing.

• Support flavour matching, reformulation, cost optimisation and the modification of existing products.

• Advise on the selection and use of aroma chemicals, natural extracts, essential oils and other flavouring raw materials.

• Provide technical guidance regarding flavour performance across relevant food, beverage and tobacco applications.

• Support troubleshooting linked to formulation performance, raw material availability, substitutions, stability or production requirements.

• Manage multiple active briefs while maintaining clear communication around priorities, progress and expected delivery dates.

• Provide realistic and consistent turnaround times for customer and internal development projects.

• Collaborate with the company’s analytical team and make practical use of GC-MS data where relevant to flavour creation, matching and

reformulation work.

• Participate in virtual project discussions and technical reviews with internal stakeholders.

• Provide occasional on-site support, customer participation or technical training where required.

• Travel internationally when necessary, with reasonable travel expenses covered by the company.

• Share relevant market insight, application knowledge and flavour trends that may support the company’s continued international development.

• Maintain strict confidentiality regarding formulations, raw materials, customer projects, technical processes and other proprietary information.

• Work within agreed intellectual property arrangements covering formulations and products developed during the consultancy engagement.

Key Requirements

• Significant professional experience as a hands-on Flavourist within the international flavours industry.

• Strong flavour creation experience, ideally in Sweet & Beverage.

• Previous experience within a recognised multinational or established international flavour house strongly preferred.

• Strong understanding of flavour raw materials, formulation principles and how flavour systems perform within finished applications.

• Experience managing customer briefs independently from initial interpretation through to formulation, evaluation and modification.

• Ability to work remotely and collaborate effectively with an international technical team.

• Access to an independent flavour creation laboratory would be highly advantageous but is not essential.

• Where laboratory access is not available, the consultant must be comfortable providing detailed formulations for the company’s internal

laboratory to compound.

• Ability to manage a consistent volume of briefs and provide reliable, commercially appropriate turnaround times.

• Practical, responsive and delivery-focused approach to consultancy work.

• Fluent English required.

• Willingness to participate in virtual meetings across international time zones.

• Ability to work within clearly defined confidentiality, non-disclosure and intellectual property arrangements.

• Current availability to undertake consultancy work on a regular and ongoing basis.
